The Lab Display

Last week, we shared with you the first steps we took as a featured vendor of The Lab Event.

After completing the 50s throwback engagement photos, the next item of business was to prepare our portfolio display. We were told that we’d be given a 2’ by 7’ perforated sheet of metal to decorate and display our images however we liked. The options were endless! This can often times make design and decision making all the more difficult.

These were the questions we asked ourselves.

How do you reflect who you are in a 2′ by 7′ space?

How do you make it interactive so it feels like an experience?

How do we keep it true to our brand?

After a long brainstorming session, a mental breakdown or two, and a few late nights, we finally designed and created the following display for The Lab Event. We found inspiration on Pinterest for framing the metal sheet and using the clipboards. But the overall look and feel of the board was inspired by our website.

Pictilio is all about couples and telling their love story so this helped us decide which photos we wanted to feature. We like to keep design simple and clean so the clipboards helped and were each pinned to the board with magnets. We wanted to shimmer and shine – who doesn’t – so we incorporated elements of gold to add a little fun and flare. We featured our tagline “Your Love. In Focus.” to reinforce what our brand is all about. Each clipboard included a little gold heart to add romance, show we care about the little details, and of course, keep things practical by covering up the Staples logo on the clip. And lastly, to make the board interactive, people could grab and take home date ideas from the envelopes which also act as our business cards.

We were thrilled with the final product! So much so that we couldn’t let it all go to waste. Some of the elements are now displayed on our refrigerator to keep our vision alive and to remind us to pray for our sweet clients’ marriages.

We’re Back!

There is nothing quite like having your mom around.

Vitaliy and I had a great time with my mom visiting last week. We did tourist things, we ate at our favorite restaurants, and we did mommy/daughter stuff. It couldn’t have been more perfect! But the best part of the trip is just having my mom be my mom. She came in and helped put my life in order like moms do. They make everything better! Our entire home was in order and our office set up before the week was over.

We’re back in the office today after an exciting photoshoot yesterday to start off the week. Here’s a sneak peek! Can you guess who was the star of the show? Let me introduce you to Bernard!

Momma’s in town!

My mom is visiting us this week. Besides being completely hilarious, she is a huge source of support and encouragement in our lives. The best way to put it, she’s our number one fan! We couldn’t be more thankful for her. Here’s a letter I sent her the week I was leaving my job to join Vitaliy full-time.

Dear Mom,

I don’t know if you are aware, but it was while looking for a snowman for Rustic Rose that led me to discover my first wedding photography blog. This then led Vitaliy and I to consider starting a photography business together. And well, fast forward five years later, here I sit, your daughter, getting ready to quit the safety and security of my day job to continue the crazy adventure God started in our lives the day I stumbled upon that snowman.

But I can’t make this jump without acknowledging you. Thank you for following your own dreams because it helped me understand how to follow mine. Thank you for every comment you’ve left on every single blog post I’ve ever written. Thank you for encouraging us to keep going even when the future is unknown. And most of all, thank you for believing in us in our frequent moments of self-doubt. We would not have made it to this point if we did not have a mother like you.

I will go now and run after this goal with conviction. And I will do it knowing that you’re behind me pushing me through on days when I feel like I can’t put another foot forward.

I love you,

Your daughter Candace
