Our first engagement session post-baby!

Matt and Tracy were referred to us by the lovely Nikki and Gabe, previous clients who we now call friends. And it’s just more proof that awesome clients bring along more awesome clients. We are constantly blessed each wedding season to work with such sweet and fun couples.

Here’s a little Q&A with Matt and Tracy.

Q. How did you meet and what first attracted you to one another?

A. We met at work in 2010 but sparks flew 2 years later at an office golf party where we were drawn to each other the whole night. Even with everyone around, we somehow managed to find our way back to one another to continue our conversation.

Matt: Her beautiful smile and her contagious laugh.

Tracy: His bay area “swag”.

Q. When and where did you first say those three famous words “I love you”?

A. We had been dating for 3 months and Tracy said I love you first before bed (a first for her!)

Q. Can you share a favorite date idea you’ve enjoyed together as a couple?

A. We did dinner and a movie at the Grove in Los Angeles, took a walk through the LACMA light installation and stopped by a local Irish watering hole – Molly Malone’s for a night cap.

Matt re-enacted our first date while Christmas shopping back at the Grove where he proposed at LACMA with friends and family hiding around. For old times sake, we walked over to celebrate at Molly Malone’s.

Q. What are you most excited about for your future as husband and wife?

A. Traveling the world together and starting a family (our next adventure!).

Matt and Tracy, we are so thrilled to start our 2015 wedding season with you! Congratulations on your engagement! It was a cold one in San Francisco, but you guys were total troopers. 2015 Summer Bucket List

Since Summer is our busy season, we have to be even more intentional about making time for our marriage and family life.

In the past, we have definitely let the business side of life rule during this fun season. But we decided not to let that happen again this year! We drafted a Summer Bucket List that we can easily reference when we’re trying to make plans. In fact, this is how we spent date night last week. We didn’t plan ahead of time so we had no babysitter. Instead of canceling it all together, we designated one of Rose’s nap times to us. We cuddled on the couch and dreamed about our summer together, as a couple and as a family. Below is how we hope to invest the next few months. We may not get to all of them, but I’m confident that having this list will help us enjoy this season a lot more then we have in years past.

2015 Summer Bucket List

  1. Plant a vegetable garden made up of tomatoes, zucchinis, and cucumbers.
  2. Take a 3 day family trip to Southern California.
  3. Drive-in movie with friends.
  4. Date night at Foreign Cinema in SF.
  5. Spontaneous beach days when the weather is HOT.
  6. 4th of July by the pool.
  7. Find the best burger in the city.
  8. Backyard BBQs with friends and family.
  9. Smore’s on our deck under string lights.
  10. Explore different farmer’s markets.
  11. Track down the Frozen Kuhsterd truck.
  12. Have a strawberry shortcake night at home.
  13. Go berry picking and bake a pie.
  14. Camp at Yuba Gap with Vitaliy’s relatives.
  15. Take a boat ride on Stowe Lake.

We’ve already gotten started! Sunday afternoon we stumbled upon the Frozen Kuhsterd truck at the West Coast Craft show. It was so, so good!

Make Marriage Happen with Lara Casey – Part 3

To round out our week with Lara Casey, I asked her to share one of her favorite date ideas with us.

We believe there is a strong case for date nights and that each one is like making an investment in your marriage. If you need some inspiration, you can check out our date night feed here. And as new parents who have to be much more creative about date night, we are always welcome to new ideas. Thanks for sharing, Lara!

With a busy toddler, date nights are pretty low-key. We love going to Whole Foods for dinner as a family or getting a babysitter and going by ourselves. The simple act of getting to talk together, face-to-face, is a gift. For us, date nights used to be fancy dinners, and now we relish the gift of time more than anything. No matter where we go, just getting time together allows us to re-connect and grow as a couple.

Lara truly has been such a wealth of wisdom in my life. Her blog, book, conference, and powersheets have really helped Vitaliy and I live with more intent and purpose, making the important things happen in our lives. Every time we fill out our powersheets, those are the months that are lived with clarity, peace, and purpose.
