Kyle+Lauren: Wedding at Clos LaChance Winery

Kyle and Lauren promised their lives to one another on top of a hill with rows of vineyards draping the landscape below.

The California sun shone brightly casting a perfect warm glow to an already romantic day. They laughed their way through their vows and kissed as husband and wife. The ceremony was short, but the kiss was not – these two couldn’t wait to be husband and wife. As they made their way down the aisle as Mr and Mrs, Kyle gave a big thumbs up and Lauren wore her usual breathtaking smile.

After the ceremony, everyone was ready to celebrate but a cocktail hour and dinner stood between them and the dance floor. Toasts were shared, glasses clinked, and everyone smiled with joy for Lauren and Kyle. The sun began to drop and so did the temperature until that first song dropped from the dj. That started the party of all parties. One that will go down in history and be talked about for years to come.

You can read Kyle and Lauren’s love story here. And you can also view our favorite memories from their day here: KYLE AND LAUREN: THE HIGHLIGHTS.

Kyle and Lauren, I was moments away from dragging Vitaliy onto the floor and into one of your many dance circles. But I couldn’t muster the courage so we stood on the sidelines secretly dancing and taking photos. It was so much fun! Thank you for giving us the honor and extreme pleasure of photographing your beautiful wedding. We wish you a marriage filled with love and laughter! Congratulations! We love you both!

Until Death Do Us Part

Two of us

This past Friday I attended a memorial service for one of the pastors of my church, Steve Aurell, who recently died of cancer. The last two people to share were his wife Laura and their daughter Jessica.

I had spent the entire service crying and all of my tissues were drenched with snot and tears. I was ill equipped to soak up any more and wondered how I would make it through their reflections. But I was surprised that it was the only time during the entire service that I didn’t feel the urge to cry.

My mind was transfixed and my gaze unwavering as one of my biggest fears stared me in the face. A wife having lost her husband.

I am petrified of losing my own husband. Or worse, me dying and leaving him behind. Actually, I still haven’t decided which one is worse. I remember thinking once how lucky it was for Vitaliy’s parents that they died together in the same accident. I often think, and have even prayed, that Vitaliy and I could have such luck. (Even though I don’t believe in luck! Hence, the prayer.) But this sounds so morbid, let me get to my point.

As I reflected this weekend on what Laura shared, my prayer started to change. She said she had fallen more in love with Steve as she watched the way he lived in spite of the cancer. I was overwhelmed. I knew in that moment that I was getting to witness first hand the beauty of the promise, “until death do us part.”

The reality is it doesn’t matter how your marriage starts, or even how well you do in the middle, what matters most is how it ends. There are so many couples who never make it to the that special “until death do us part” of the relationship. Steve and Laura were the first to admit that their marriage had its ups and downs, but they persevered. Their marriage was marked with grace and forgiveness and they loved all the way until death parted them.

I now have a new prayer. Instead of praying that we would die the way Vitaliy’s parents did – together, I now pray that we would live like them, committed and in love all the way to the end.

This photo was taken in the window of Vitaliy’s grandparents home in Ukraine. The same window where Vitaliy’s parents had a few of their wedding photos taken. Thank you Vasiliy for the photo!

Adam & Jessica
The Details

Beltane Ranch has become a new favorite venue. It has the warmth of feeling like you’re getting married in your backyard, but the beauty of the California country side.

Guests were welcomed onto the ranch with lemonade served from the classic Chevy parked just outside the entrance. The big oak tree in the middle of the property provided shade while guests watched Adam and Jessica share their vows, give their rings, and kiss as husband and wife. After the ceremony, there were a myriad of yard games to enjoy, including a life size Jenga made by the father of the bride. One of my favorite details were the pinwheel escort cards that blew in the warm summer breeze. As dinner came to an end, guests made their way to the dance floor and never left. The sun descended and the Italian-styled stringed lights flickered on radiating light and romance over the dance floor. It was a celebration to remember.

None of this could happen, of course, without the incredible team of people who put it all together. Joy from Beltane Ranch was an absolute pleasure to work with and a constant support throughout the day. And Sammy from Alex’s Catering made sure that every single guest was taken care of. He is not only efficient, but he adds life to the party with his fun personality. But I can’t end this post without acknowledging Lynn Hannafin, a close family friend, who was the coordinator of all coordinators. She held the clipboard and made sure everything went off without a hitch. Just the kind of friend every person needs.

Here is Adam and Jessica’s full team of vendors that made the day perfect.
